Wire cutting processing of automated mechanical parts

Wire cutting, also known as wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), is a process used to cut complex shapes out of metals and other materials. This process uses an electrically charged wire that is fed through the material, melting and cutting it with pinpoint accuracy. Wire cutting is often used in manufacturing for parts that require tight tolerances and intricate shapes.

The process begins by creating a CAD design of the part to be cut. This design is then translated into a G-code program that controls the wire cutting machine. The machine uses a thin, electrically charged wire made of brass or copper alloy to cut the material.

During the wire cutting process, the wire is slowly fed through the material, controlled by the G-code program. As the wire passes through the material, an electrical discharge occurs between the wire and the material, melting and eroding the material along the wire's path. This creates the desired shape in the material.

Wire cutting is commonly used in the production of small parts, such as gears, bearings, and connectors, where precision and accuracy are crucial. It can also be used to cut thicker materials, such as steel, though this requires a higher power machine and larger diameter wire.、
