Slow Wire cutting, also known as electric discharge machining (EDM), is a process used to cut complex shapes of hard materials such as metals and alloys. Wire-walking EDM uses a thin wire electrode that passes through the workpiece and is tensioned by two scrolls.

This electrode is charged, and when it is close enough to the workpiece, the charge jumps over the gap and erodes the material. The electrodes are then moved along the path, guided by a computer control system, to cut out the desired shape.

Molds are often made of hardened steel and are difficult to process using traditional methods. However, slow wire cutting can cut complex shapes with high precision and accuracy, making it an ideal choice for pattern-makers.

This process is slower than other machining methods, but is very effective for creating precise shapes with tight tolerances. It is also used to make small holes in metal surfaces and to produce a fine surface finish.
